The art of the Contavalli family goes back to their origins in Imola, Italy. They work as artisans, as craftsmen manufacturing violins, violas, violonchelos, furniture, among others.

One day in the beginning of this century Mr. Nino Contavalli came to our country and remained, dedicating as a pastime to the art of restoration. His son who not only has the same name shared his passion for art. He travelled to Italy and from the hand of European craftsmens, learned the techniques and the secrets of the modern restoration. After satisfying his curiosity of perfection he returned to Peru, continuing the family tradition of his father but enriching it with the acquired experience.

More than 70 years of constant work and thousand of pieces recovered give faith of the quality and the guarantee of impeccable work that implies not only the suitable use of the different techniques, materials, and the knowledge that allows to recreate the exact colors and forms of the original piece of art from different periods and schools.

Nino Contavalli also emphasizes in the creation of own pieces. It is important to mention a Byzantine virgin of Huamanga of Peruvian thematic but with European influence made to order by the Castelli - Alvarez Calderón family. They took this creation as a special present for the Pope Juan Pablo II, who had granted a hearing to them. The Pope liked this piece of art so much that he destined it to the Museum of the Vatican, where it’s been exhibit until today.
